American Idol Gives Back

In an episode that promised to have the most shocking ending of American Idol Season 6 this week, a two hours guest performances ended with NO ELIMINATION! It was a charity night and American Idol used its immense television power to campaign for charity, as “Idol Gives Back.”

The special episode was hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, who has hosted the Oscars, the Grammys, and the Emmys and was filled with stars like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood; Celine Dion; Earth, Wind & Fire; Il Divo; Keira Knightley; Hugh Grant; Josh Groban; Jack Black; Helen Mirren; Rascal Flatts; Quincy Jones; and Annie Lennox. Bono met the six American Idol finalists to talk about the work of ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History and how the audience can help. The Idol contestants also performed a song written by Bono and Dave Stewart about the AIDS emergency in Africa titled "American Prayer."
